NaNoWriMo 2011

In 229 days writers from all over the wold will join together to participate in this years NanoWriMo...

What is NaNoWriMo?? Good Question! I didn't know what it was either until a friend recommended this site. http://www.nanowrimo.org/

National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing on November 1. The goal is to write a 50,000 word, (approximately 175 page) novel by 11:59:59, November 30. (NanoWriMo)

Yeah, I know its a bit early. But this year will be my first year participating so I guess I can start planning early.

Sounds like fun... lets see what happens.

2010 was my first year doing NaNo and I won. I loved it, and if you enjoy writing, I think you will as well.

One of the things that made NaNo really enjoyable for me was the local get-togethers with other writers. I highly suggest you check out what's happening in your area!

The nano website really helped, too. There are entire boards devoted to word wars and writing prompts. (Word war definition: Get a group of people and pick a time limit, like 15 minutes. Whoever write the most words wins.)

Oh, and there are a few nice incentives, too. They vary from year to year, but in 2010 winners got a big discount on Scrivener, which is an awesome drafting program. Createspace gave winners a code so they can get a free proof of their novel. There are a couple other things, but I don't remember them.

Rumor has it there's gonna be a warm-up NaNo sponsored by the Office of Letters and Light (the nonprofit that runs NaNoWriMo) sometime late this summer, but I haven't seen many details about that yet. :o)

Anywho. I'm rambling. I think you're going to enjoy NaNo. It's a great experience.
